Subject: AgJOBS Sign-On Letter Deadline April 5 - Please Help

 Dear Friends,

The worker advocates and employer representatives who organized a

 left-center-right, 400-organization sign-on letter to Congress regarding

AgJOBS last year is attempting to do it again.  Due to potentially

fast-moving events, we have little time.  The letter is almost identical

 to

the one last year.  This year we would like at least 500 organizations.

Last year, that remarkable sign-on letter drew great attention in

 Congress.

Please help us.  Quick deadline this year:  Tuesday, April 5.  Please

 notify

Ms. Lorna Baez at the Farmworker Justice Fund, lbaez@nclr.org,

 202-783-2628

 ext. 201, and fax 202-783-2561.

> The letter is below.

> Also, we earlier asked you to fax, call, visit and write Senators.  We

> have

> posted that action alert on our website along with every Senator's fax

> number. Go to our website's Legislative News and then Action Alert page or

> just click here:  http://www.fwjustice.org/action_alert.htm .  SUPPORT

> Sign-on Letter

>

>     Dear Member of Congress:

>

> The undersigned organizations, representing a broad cross-section of

> America, join together to ask you to support enactment of S. 359 and H.R.

> 884, the Agricultural Job Opportunities, Benefits and Security Act of 2005

> (AgJOBS).  This landmark bipartisan legislation would achieve historic

> reforms to our nation's labor and immigration laws as they pertain to

> agriculture.  The legislation reflects years of negotiations on complex

> and

> contentious issues among employer and worker representatives and leaders

> in

> Congress.

>

> A growing number of our leaders in Congress, as well as the President,

> recognize that our nation's immigration policy is flawed and that, from

> virtually every perspective, the status quo is untenable.  America needs

> reforms that are compassionate, realistic and economically sensible -

> reforms that also enhance the rule of law and contribute to national

> security.  AgJOBS represents the coming together of historic adversaries

> in

> a rare opportunity to achieve reforms supportive of these goals, as well

> as

> our nation's agricultural productivity and food security.

>

> AgJOBS represents a balanced solution for American agriculture, a critical

> element of a comprehensive solution, and one that can be enacted now with

> broad bipartisan support.  For these reasons, we join together to

> encourage

> the Congress to enact promptly S. 359 and H.R. 884, the Agricultural Job

> Opportunities, Benefits, and Security Act of 2005.

> Thank you.
