Migrant camp invaded
By JASON LADAY LAWRENCE TWP. - State police have charged two suspects and are searching for a third in the home invasion and armed robbery of a worker at a migrant camp on Sheppard Davis Road, in the Sayers Neck area of the township. According to state troopers in Port Norris and Trenton, three males entered the residence early in the day on Saturday brandishing handguns and "physically assaulting several occupants" inside while demanding money. Approximately 15 victims suffered cuts and bruises from being punched and kicked, said state police Det. Darrin Pulman, in Port Norris. A total of $3,000 and several cellular phones were stolen from the camp. State police have charged two Vineland residents - Joel Ramos, 20, of East Park Avenue, and 38-year-old Felix Rodriguez, of College Drive - with aggravated assault, robbery, burglary and various weapons offenses. Authorities are seeking the public's assistance in identifying a possible third suspect. State troopers have released a surveillance photo of the suspected third man. According to Pulman, he was described by the victims as 6 feet tall, approximately 300 pounds and is "possibly Puerto Rican, with dark-brown skin." Anyone with information should contact Pulman at the Port Norris State Police Barracks at 785-0036. State troopers apprehended the Vineland pair Saturday afternoon at Ramos residence after a vehicle matching the description of the "get-away" car was found parked outside. The two suspects, who state troopers said match the descriptions given by the victims, reportedly walked out of the residence while investigators were conducting surveillance on the residence. Investigators conducted a search of both the vehicle and residence, uncovering several revolvers, an undisclosed amount of money and clothing allegedly worn during the robbery, according to state police. Cellular phones, allegedly taken during the home invasion, were also recovered.
